By way of developing the economic relations, an idea to establish a constantly operating bilateral economic forum between Lithuania and Belarus occurred in 2005. Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists together with the Embassy of Belarus in Lithuania and the Belarussian Confederation of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs undertook the realization of this idea. The first forum was held the same year in the Lithuanian seaport Klaipėda. Forum discussions involved the issues of transit, transportation, logistics, furniture industry and tourism.
The 2nd Belarussian - Lithuanian economic forum was held in the Belarussian Saligorsk city in 2006 and referred to the issues of transportation and logistics, textile and clothing industry.
The next forum in 2007 was held in Druskininkai city with discussions on the renewable resources of energy, projects for development and investments between the two countries, issues of establishing joint enterprises. The 2008 forum was successfully conducted in Minsk – agenda covered current issues on bioenergy, environment protection and investments.
Without any doubt, all these events activated internecine relations between the countries and the developing volumes of conjoint trade tell of good results of cooperation.
After including Belarus into the EU Eastern Partnership program, a decision was made to expand the concept of this event and this time forum turns into an international forum activating the development of cooperation between the EU and Belarus.
The forthcoming forum shall be held this year on 16 September at Vilnius Litexpo exhibition and convention center.
The annual forum attracts representatives of more than 100 business organizations, businessmen, delegates from authorities and media. This year more then 200 participants from more then 20 countries are expected to attend the Forum.
